Our Story

BIAC is a non-profit 501C3 organization that was formed in 2009. The camp is located on 42 acres in Robards, KY. The inspiration for the camp came when Tim's son, T.K. suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) while snowboarding in Colorado. Tim and T.K. participated in adventure camps in Colorado after T.K.'s injury. Tim wanted to bring that type of opportunities to those suffering from TBI's on this side of the Mississippi. Tim went to his pastor to ask for guidance and the Presbyterian Church suggested building the camp on 42 acres the church owned. The ground was overgrown, the small house on the property was unusable. With a host of family and volunteers, the land was cleared, a lake was built, trails were made, a lodge was built, and people came. We now have over 2 miles in trails, a low ropes team building course, a high ropes challenge course and activities to support the needs of our community and the surrounding area.

Special Needs Events

BIAC is more than a place for those to experience adventure outdoors, but has a passion for helping those of various needs enjoy activities together.  BIAC hosts a Special Needs Prom each year in April or May, a Special Needs Easter Egg Hunt around Easter and a Halloween Dance in the Fall.  BIAC will host two (2) Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Adventure Camps in 2025.  Applications can be found here and enrollment is limited to 8 in order to meet the needs of all capabilities.

Our Inspiration -
T.K. Johns
1978-2018

T.K. was an avid skateboarder, snowboarder and loved life and all the adventures that come with living. At the age of 25, T.K. suffered a traumatic brain injury while snowboarding in Colorado. His spirit for adventure never faded but his body could no longer engage in activities in the same way. He learned to adapt. His family learned to adapt, and together with friends and community the Brain Injury Adventure Camp was created in 2009. T.K. passed away just shy of his 40th birthday. He will always be remembered for his bright smile and never failing thirst for adventure. The camp continues on to help others "believe and achieve beyond the expectations of self and others".
